Location:  Meeting Room
Contact:  Kayleigh
Description:  New Hampshire has lost many of its important historic buildings to fire, neglect, intentional demolition and re-development.  In some cases, a plaque or marker provides a physical reminder of what was, but in other examples, no tangible evidence remains.

Maggie Stier showcases some of the celebrated buildings that New Hampshire has lost, and explores how and why we remember and commemorate those losses. Her program will draw from historical and contemporary photographs, maps, and other historical records to explore the significance of these structures, explain their eventual fate, and analyze popular responses to the loss. Particular attention will be devoted to places where a building was memorialized in some way.

Provided by NH Humanities. Cosponsored with Thompson-Ames Historical Society

6:30 PM - 7:30 PMBeing Mortal Series: What Happened to Natural Causes?

Location:  Meeting Room
Contact:  Kayleigh
Description:  The Being Mortal Series Continues, with Dr. Jackson. What Happened to Natural Causes?  Historical Perspectives on Death and Dying.A presentation examining the historical contrast between our grandparents’ and parents’ experiences of death and our modern day dilemmas posed by technologies and choices.  We explore the roots of our awkward discomfort with conversations about choices at the end of life and how we can overcome them.

Dr. Jackson served the New Hampshire North Country as an Ob-Gyn for 25 years before leaving to complete a Masters in Public Health at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.  There she worked in Patient Safety and Quality until happily returning to the Mt. Washington Valley in January of 2015.  Now retired and living in Madison she is devoting much of her energy toward making conversations about end-of-life decision making a natural and comfortable topic for families.  It is her strong belief that we can avoid much suffering, conflict and expense by opening ourselves to the choices ahead.
Her other community ties include being a Board Member of the local Habitat for Humanity, the Gibson Senior Center and the MWV Citizens for Energy Efficient Communities.

NH Humanities: On This Spot Once Stood
New Hampshire has lost many of its important historic buildings to fire, neglect, intentional demolition and re-development.

Being Mortal Series: What Happened to Natural Causes?
The Being Mortal Series Continues, with Dr.
